Tegan: Sara’s letter was about responsibility, and what we put out to the media. If you’re a sports star and you say “faggot” on the courts, you get fined. But if you’re in music and you say it 234 times, you get an MTV Music Award. And I think we really need to think about that. Just think about it, I didn’t say put them in jail.

Sara: You know with Tyler, The Creator and Odd Future at the time I felt that there wasn’t, umm… there wasn’t a message being delivered to the public that felt representative of my own opinion. And I was seeing coverage in places like the New Yorker or the New York Times, and I keep thinking why isn’t my opinion being expressed. What is it about this message about misogyny and rape and homophobia, why is it so gently being, you know, cast aside. And umm… I had a lot of opinions about it. So i felt very strongly about the message that I wrote and the statement that i posted, and I still do. And as much as made in the media of it being an attack on “Tyler”, the truth is it was an attack on on you, it was an attack on the media. And those I see as colleagues and peers in the media and the entertainment industry. I wanted you to take responsibility for what you were putting out and what you were saying, and what you weren’t saying… And in the future I would do it again. Umm… I think it needs to be a carefully wording thing because Tegan and I don’t wanna become that band that is always like mouthing off or getting into little scraps with people. I hate to quarrel with anyone, but in this case I felt it was so important to address the media about what was being said and what wasn’t being said.
